— someone walking past the 75+ long line a few minutes before 6 am. I was the 33rd person in line and I arrived at 5:46am. And while approaching the quickly growing queue, almost everyone smiled and happily waited their turn.

I waited in line for over 2 hours, starting at 7:00 AM. There were easily over 200 people queued-up inside the elementary school gym ahead of me. The single voting machine we had for our district broke within the first hour of voting, so we cast our votes on paper. I heard an older gentleman say that he grew up in this neighborhood, and they'd never had such a turn out, thus the underestimation of the space needed to accomodate us.

Hope!

I voted.

Now I'm hoping.

Let's Hear for the Boy

I have plans to expand my Brawl on Bowery mitts selection to include a man hand sized version, and my order of new yarn for the collection just arrived featuring some darker colors (chocolate, smoky grey, silver grey, navy and licorice black/green) for the more utilitarian men out there not in the market for goldenrod or peacock teal.



Not sure how many men read my blog, especially for the knitting content, but if there are any of you out there, I'd love to hear what knitted accessories you'd be interested in seeing in the shop!

Halloween Hijikes

We started out at 6th Avenue and 19th Street to view the Halloween Parade, then headed downtown to Happy Ending, stopping for hot dogs from a vendor on the way.

I ended up being a Vivian Girl from Henry Darger's In the Realms of the Unreal

Tonight was one of those magical subway rides home
when I'm overwhelmed with love for New York
and New Yorkers.

Everyone had a miserable day, and was struggling to suppress their
frustration while being in someone's face,
and having someone in their's --

just get where they're going
with limited space; time; means.

Packed in and
giving off steam:
short tugs on a scarf,
strategic throat clearing,
aggressive, padded elbows
& hurried apologies.
