Make, Friends.

I was the lucky recipient to two handmade items from my crafty friends this week. S, of wry humor and cat love, gave me her first ever, perfectly executed, crocheted FO! It's a lilac cotton face cloth and I'm already using it. S and I spent last Sunday afternoon crocheting and thrifting (nada).

Er, my good friend from college, received this book from me for her birthday, and whipped up the lil argyle guy you see pictured. I'm amazed! I also bought myself the book, but as per my usual, have yet to attempt any creating.

An Ode to Orange

Folks, I've joined Lolly's Project Spectrum! In honor of April's color of the month, a poem:

Hues of sunset, my eyes glow
And your lovely warmth is felt.
In the darkness your spendor will show
As the winter chill does melt.
Spring is here and your tints inspire
creation of knitwear and home design
for fair weather in your image.
Dangerous beauty; the shade of fire.
Not for the faint of heart, Orange, you are mine.

I just joined the Hourglass KAL today, and plan to use the orange yarn pictured above for the project. It'sAndean Silk, and it arrived today from Knit Picks along with a bunch of sock yarns ranging from sort of ugly to really ugly colorways. Disappointing. My coworker, knitting mentor and couture yarn-dying queen, Ms. Purly Whites tried to shame me about buying the sock yarn, but hey! It was 2.99 a hank, and I'm no sock yarn snob...yet. I'm currently working on my first pair, Badcauls. And yes, they are being knit in a prototype Sundara multicolored sock yarn resembling peacock feathers. I must admit, Sundara's yarn is shockingly luscious and smooth compared to the Knit Picks variety, and her color choices are so refined. Maybe I'll become a sock yarn snob sooner than later.

My First KAL

I've joined the Forecast knit-along! For weeks, I've been drooling over the beautiful finished products turned out by Winnie, Pinku and of course, Stephanie. Finally, I cast on on Saturday. I'm working with Peace Fleece in Shaba Green. I adore the shade, though I'm finding the yarn a little rough. I'm hoping it will soften after blocking.

How I Came to Blog

Hi, and welcome, people.

My name is Daphne. This is my blog. I feel I should apologize for how sparce it is around here. I've never blogged before and I'm the first to admit that I'm not a whiz when it comes to technology. Or most things. However, after several months of hard core lurking on other peoples' blogs, I felt compelled to begin my own weblog of things that strike my fancy. I'm a knitter, but not a good one, yet. I plan to be. I will likely post many of my knitting trials and errors here, and they are numerous. This is a blog of with humility. I don't plan to blog exclusively about knitting, however. I'll write about other failed creative attempts as well. This should be fun, so stay tuned!
