Saturday sun...
I busybusy this weekend, knitting my fingers to nubs for the shop, breaking to take the dogs out. It's gorgeous and sunny, though close to freezing outside. I took Cinder and Camille on the roof this morning, where there were patches of ice. They love running, pouncing and sliding on the ice, then scraping it with their teeth and licking up the shavings. Love the pure joy they have!

Fall Back to Basics
I'd promised I would have a few cowls in the shop by this weekend, but after a long and exhausting work week of board meetings and other challenges, I realized that I'll have to push the release back a week. I have the first cowl all ready to go -- just need to find the time to photograph it, but anyway I'd like to shoot a bunch of them all at once so it'll wait. Here's a preliminary shot I took this morning:

I decided to do a run of the cowls in the same yarn I'm using to make the Upper East Slouch hats and the Brawl on Bowery mitts. These cowls are muuuuch softer, fluffier, and drapier than the Golden and Pewter Fleece cowls I made for myself and Sarah (out of bulky tweed yarn). I kinda want to keep this version for myself! I'm calling this dlittlegarden hand knit version the Christopher Street Cowl.

Since I realized that I needed more time to crank out a few more Christopher Streets for the shop, I had time this lovely sunny Sunday to enjoy my sweet dog. Cinder and I decided a walk to Prospect Park to admire the autumn foliage was in order. We enjoyed a meandering path down through Prospect Heights, stopping to sniff a few fire hydrants and peer into the windows of a few townhouses on the market along the way.

Unfortunately, our camera batteries died before we reached the park, but we had quite a memorable romp around the grounds. Cinder loves plowing through the crunchy, spicy smelling leaves and playing tug-o-war with me over found twigs. We made our way into the nature trails, and just as we were peacefully crossing a stone bridge over a horse trail, a giant leaf fluttered its way down and landed on Cind's head! It startled us both for a second, and we looked at each other with shocked faces. I feel so happy having moments to connect with my dog. I know it might seem silly to some, but he grounds me.

This is Creepy and a Little Sweet...
found via Agent Inkysocks
Portraits of dogs and their owners wearing dog fur sweaters.... I wonder what kind of yarn Cinder's hair would produce? His fur is so short and shiny, it probably wouldn't ply.

nice surprise

Cinder and I were sitting on the couch this morning, enjoying some coffee with vanilla Silk, when a big cloud of white balloons floated right past our window. They must have been released from the church next door. We both jumped up to watch them fly away. I caught a few pictures. When they were out of sight and the camera was still out, Cinder sat for a some portraits.
Handsome, isn't he?

FO: Dog Walking Mittens
How could I not love this dog?
Admittedly, I've now become a DOG PERSON, who will talk obsessively about various characteristics of my dog if prompted, or even if simply not discouraged.
Look at these two. They've become very romantic these days.
But they still wrestle and chase each other constantly.
(I named my latest personal FO "Dog Walking Mittens" just so I'd have an excuse to post pictures of my dog. Shameless, I know.)
Pattern: Dog Walking Mittens, my own pattern
Yarn: Noro Kureyon, colorway 095- just under 1 ball
Needles: Size 8 Brittany birch dpns
Reactions: Knitting these convertible mittens was necessary for two reasons- 1) my fingerless Manos mitts are filthy from 2 years of use and picking out muddy beets at the Saturday market 2) I needed a palate cleanser after all the frantic holiday knitting I've been doing. They were a very quick knit- probably 5.5 hours total, and a stash buster. Bonus points all around!
Pattern- I made it up as I went along, but I've since written out the pattern. On the elevator this morning, a colleague complimented me on the mittens, and asked to borrow the pattern after I told her I'd finished them the night before-- another knitter!!! This is actually the ONLY OTHER KNITTER I've encountered at my work. I'm was so happy with this new discovery, I spent the first hour or so at work typing up the pattern for her.
Yarn- I love Noro Kureyon yarn, though this is only my second time working with it, and it's the same colorway. I find it rustic and charming. It feels great to knit with on birch needles- both are so lightweight and have a kind of waxy texture to them.
(The pictures of my mittens were taken before I bothered to sew on buttons for the mitten cap flaps.)
