Kitchen Productivity

I tested my Spicy Garlic Soy beans tonight, and while I don't mean to toot my own horn:
THEY
ARE
RAD.

Also, I made my first beef stew over the weekend while I was wishing for fall to hurry up and get here.

Fashionable face masks

In light of the CDC's latest report on Swine Flu, maybe I'll consider dawning a face mask in the subway each day....

Love Scallops

I would love to dust off my sewing machine and try making this adorable skirt featured in Vain and Vapid's scallop tutorial!

Canned: Spicy Soy Garlic Beans

I gave pickling (of a sort) a try!

Blanched string beans and packed them in a can of apple cider vinegar, dark soy sauce, smashed garlic cloves, salt, celery salt and red pepper flakes.
We'll see how they turn out!

Cooked: Garlic Bread Soup

Using the recipe for Sopa de Ajo from Mario Batali's Spain: a culinary road trip as a base, I made this delicious, thick and spicy Garlic Bread Soup tonight, adding a splash of vinegar, tomato paste, cracked black pepper, cilantro, and more olive oil and paprika. I topped each bowl with fresh baby spinach leaves, slices of ripe tomato, sea salt and cracked pepper.

a cold brew

My first attempt at cold pressed coffee...I'll let you know home it comes out in another 2-3 days. :)

Liberty in the shade

I totally need some of these Liberty print sunglasses.

ooh, shiny

I don't like blingy jewelry, in general. So this label Pyrrha's old 19th century seal pendants, bracelets and rings is much more my speed.

Win Win

Sseko seems like a terrific company and program, and their sandals are beautiful.
What a perfect gift to give!

Update: Bought some!
8/25/09- Update: They arrived! That was fast. The sandals are terrific -- amazing quality and so comfortable. They have a thick rubber sole on them that isn't visable on the website. Great for tromping around NYC all summer.

Made: Rice and Chicken Soup with Lemon, Cilantro, Okra and Squash

knitting nostalgia

Ah, the good old days of hand crafting and stereotypical imagery in the media....
It's a family value.

Last Night...

...I took in Celebrate Brooklyn's TV on the Radio concert in Prospect Park with my very special person. Fantastic show, and a great way to wind-down my August stay-cation.
