Vivienne Westwood: DIY

I wish I had the skills to create get-ups like those presented in Vivienne Westwood's S/S 09 collection! I love the pastel rainbow colors she mixed with dark blue and blacks in sheer and sheeny fabrics.
The two knitted looks shown at the beginning of the collection have me thinking about free-knitting some drapey objects to wrap around myself this fall.

For Sale by Owner

Newly listed vintage items in my etsy shop!

Quick- buy them before I change my mind!

caffeine

All it takes is a little misty rain and some Saturday morning coffee and I'm transported back to the northwest. Cinder and I walked this morning before the weather turned. There a ton of hand-lettered signs in my neighborhood. I took a picture of one today.

Nirvana and Mudhoney are on heavy rotation this afternoon while I pull items from my stash to put up in the shop.

This series of photos leaves me in awe. Haunting!

Coming soon...shop updates!

Today is New York's first really stormy, grey day this fall, and I'm loving it! Something about the falling rain, the coolness of the air, and the beautiful layers of clouds makes me feel so happy. But trying to rifle through my closets and various stacks of clothes this morning quickly turned my optimism into frustration. I'm a clothes horse, and proud of it, but today I realized it's time to let go of some items I've been holding on to. I have some great stuff that's never seen the outside of the closet, even with my efforts to remix and reconsider my wardrobe via Wardrobe Remix.
So, I'll be putting some new items in etsy shop, as well as marking the remaining spring/summer vintage items on SALE.

Keep an eye out for updates all weekend!

talk about primitive

I'm not one to have a tizzy about fashion, but Miuccia Prada's S/S '09 collection almost gets me to that point. Style.com quotes her with the explanation that the collection is "primitive"- I guess so! Her platform heels and slippery footies couldn't even be worn down the runway without nearly breaking a few of the models' ankles, and the silky, suggestively crumpled garments hardly contained any reliable closures. They were completely unforgiving towards actual movement. It was as if a caveman designed the collection- not a woman who's been continuously revered for her beautiful fashion for the thinking woman.

Color Fantastic

I wish I had the ability to mix colors the way Consuelo Castiglioni does at Marni! She puts together the most madcap, seemingly clashing hues with sophistication and artistic results. The spring/summer '09 collection wowed me for that reason, and I'm loving the heavy circular lace and silk layers, which I'll try to use as inspiration this fall.

nice surprise

Cinder and I were sitting on the couch this morning, enjoying some coffee with vanilla Silk, when a big cloud of white balloons floated right past our window. They must have been released from the church next door. We both jumped up to watch them fly away. I caught a few pictures. When they were out of sight and the camera was still out, Cinder sat for a some portraits.

Handsome, isn't he?

Feeling Cagey, Narciso?

I watched for the black and white graphic cage-like pattern skinny pants, but I stayed for every single piece. Sooooo modern, feminine and creative. I wish I could afford one of these numbers....

Anna: Sweet!

I was delighted by Anna Sui's spring/summer '09 collection!
Not only did she use beautiful shades of blue and green that I'm LOVING right now, but the silouhettes were so perfectly wearable and vintagey. I have a lot of both kicky, full, sorta 50s skirts and dresses, as well as straight 60s ones, and I think I'll be using my favorite looks from her collection for inspiration throughout the coming year.
I also love how she (as well as Marc) used beautiful scarves as belts. I'm wearing one today to transform a very straight dress into a more curvy shape.
