This photo was taken from my sleeping loft, looking out at our outdoor space. Might not be the easiest to see, but there is a good foot of snow! Yaaaaaay! More on the way today.
I woke up early this morning after having a nightmare about putrid, furry poisonous beetles living in the corners of my imaginary country home, bought some of the Rodarte for Target line, and I'm planning on spending the rest of my morning bundled up in bed, sipping Stumptown with vanilla Silk, knitting a hat for my special one, popping the cocoa rum balls my friend gave me on Friday, and reading Sedaris' When You Are Engulfed in Flames.
The evening of December 5 was a celebratory night for us. We went to see Ghostland Observatory at Terminal 5. What a fantastic time! Those two guys really make a crowd go crazy, and their set was so tight.
My special one and I had an amazing evening on November 24 in order to kick off the Thanksgiving weekend. We went to see Dreamgirls at the Apollo Theatre -- my first time inside the Apollo! We started the evening with a quick drink at the famous Lenox Lounge, then headed over to catch the show. We has an incredible time! Wow, everyone in the show was so talented, and the music was terrific. It almost inspired me watch the movie version. Almost.
I just finished this hat (thanks for the free pattern, Smariek!) for a friend of my boyfriend, who's fighting cancer and in real need of a bone marrow treatment.
We've also joined the Be the Match registry to hopefully save someone's life who is in similar need.
Registering is super easy, and it's a great thing to do.
You can sign up online, and within a few days you'll get a kit in the mail that you send back to the National Bone Marrow Donor Program for them to process to see if you're a match. To complete your kit, all you have to do is swab the inside of your cheek with the provided cotton swabs, seal the kit, and put it in the postage-free envelope. Then, you wait to hear if you're a match for one of thousands of people in need of a life-saving marrow transplant.
Wouldn't it be great to give someone a second chance at life for the holidays this year?
Here's a great video of Joshua and his brother going golfing the day before his bone marrow biopsy. His positivity and sense of humor are really inspiring. Watch!
It's not your average American chicken noodle soup! Kimchi Jigae is a crave-worthy treat that I indulge in at my favorite Korean restaurant year-round. Now I'm gonna try making a big pot of it at home, thanks to this post!
As a kid I used to have this dream that I was riding on the back of an elephant who was swimming through the ocean, with no land in sight. It was always early evening, with dark uncertainty ahead of us, and sharks circling.
This fall look (via Stil in Berlin) is perfect. Love the mixture of textures -- suede, leather, felt and wool gabardine. Love the deep colors, and the long silhouette.
Last night my special one and I saw Dan Auerbach play at Webster Hall, with Justin Townes Earle opening for him. What a great show! I'd even say -- perhaps the best show of my year!
Just saw Bryanboy's post on the post-modeling days Gemma Ward. She was one of my favorites, and she looks amazing today! But the comments about her being plus-sized model? Is a size 6 a plus size???
Lately I've been going through my closet and pulling out piles of clothes to give away. I've also been altering skirts and dresses, hemming things shorter. This frayed flower tutorial from Maize in Montana would be a great project and way to use up all those extra pieces of material.
I love Daphne Guinness as much as the next person, and I LOVE ugly boots and shoes, but these Nina Ricci shoes exceed my tolerance levels for crazy shoes.
