Me Sew Inspired
I saw this adorable cape-like coat on Melissa's blog the other day. I love the shape and length of those sleeves! Did I mention on the blog that I bought Sew U a few months back? I did, but have yet to sew a damn thing, for a number of reasons....
1. My sewing machine is still in a box at my parents' house after moving away from Seattle.
2. I took sewing in 4H as a kid, and still haven't gotten over all the rainbow ribbons I received at the county fair for mediocrity.
3. I live in New York City. I have no room to set up a sewing station.
4. I have enough trouble committing to a single knitting project long enough to complete it. I don't need a new craft to further confuse things.
Despite all this, I would really, REALLY love to give sewing another chance in my life. I even sketched a dress design on a Post It yesterday at work. Maybe this summer, when the thought of holding wool on my lap each evening is unbearable.
As for knit-related inspiration, check out this tunic sweater!

Happiness is... Rain
The weather in New York City has been very odd. It hit 72 degrees on Saturday. But this morning, it rained. I was so pleased to hear the random droplets hitting my airconditioner as I woke up, and feel them soothingly plop on the top of my head as I walked to work, I didn't even notice that funny smell.

I'm Back in the New York Groove
I arrived via the redeye from PDX to JFK this morning at 9:04 (an hour later than planned), waited in line for a taxi forabout 50 minutes, and was huffing up my Gramercy stairs with impossibly overstuffed bags at around 11:00 am. I am so relieved to be home. Don't get me wrong, visiting with family and friends was really terrific and needed, but I'm happy to veg out until New Year's Eve now. I plan to order in a lot of sushi tonight, and give myself a pedicure.
I also plan to post lots of pictures of my trip and recall certain memories for your reading pleasure. But for now, I must nap. I leave you with a few random photos taken on the trip.

inspiration
I had to post this. I've been blog surfing this morning and found this amazing potter, Ayumi Horie through Design Sponge. I'm absolutely in love with everything about this woman's work- her purposefully imperfect glazing technique, the soft look of fingerprints in the baked clay, those terrific doodles on each piece! Wow. I want to start making pottery again. Maybe I should enroll in this class....
